For the past three years, the public has been offered the chance to vote alongside critics, historians, industry insiders and artists on the next year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees. This year’s voting is officially open and the competition is steep.

This year’s candidates include Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, N.W.A, the Smiths, Lou Reed, Sting, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Kraftwerk, Chic, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, the Marvelettes, the Spinners, Stevie Ray Vaughan, War and Bill Withers.Only the top five will make the final cut.

To qualify for induction in 2015 the band had to have released its first album in 1989 or earlier. Last year’s incoming class was made up of legends Nirvana, KISS, Hall & Oates, Cat Stevens (now known as Yusuf Islam), Linda Ronstadt and Peter Gabriel.
