How is it that you often take the opportunity to debase Christian intellect with

your arrogant presumptions: i.e. โ€œthe more education you have, the less likely

you are to ascribe Divinity a role in creation.โ€

Our first universities, the Constitution and democracy were founded on Godly principles. Noah Webster, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and most of the founding fathers of our country believed in God.

Itโ€™s apparent that our educational system, our ethics and our culture are more degraded than ever.

Lets look a little deeper and have more discussion.

  1. RE:Faith Versus Intellect:Alright class let us go over our founding father’s words once again.Repeat, church and state are to remain separate. The reason so many of the Bible thumpers out there appear to come up educationally short is because their study habits start 2012 years ago. That is their historical beginning and end and will consider no other viewpoint put forth before that date, which is wrong by the way.Look it up.In fact they can get down right mean and deadly if you don’t go along with the TRUTH as they have decided is Godly.I think the writer should think about finally getting that GED under their pious belt.A good start would be reading everything,my personal hero,B.Franklin put down on paper which was probably made of hemp as was the Constitution.I have always liked to think they did that in case the British had won and the authors were to be hung as traitors they could smoke it to calm down before the noose was put over their head’s.Also break out the dictionary and look up the word Creationist. Many of our founding father’s were followers of that point of view. Finally my favorite quote from Ben,”Better to remain silent and thought a fool then to open one’s mouth and confirm it”.

  2. Perhaps a re-reading of the US Constitution is in order. It never mentions god, and has only this to say about religion (in Article Six) “no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.”

The Bill of Rights only mention that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion”

The founding fathers sought to avoid the centuries of religious strife and persecution of Europe by creating a society where government power was completely bereft of religious influence and power, leaving us free to worship, or NOT worship as we please.

It’s better if we leave it that way.

  3. JB,

And that comment you left proves the entire point about intelligence. There is no united states document from out founding fathers that mentions god or religion. That’s why we have separation of church and state ( thankfully). In fact, Thomas Jefferson fought for that and it was a good thing.

When will people wake up and realize we are a secular nation and always have been. If you want to live in a country where your myths are the law then please move, and see what that is truly like.

Let’s get our facts straight here because as the other enters said God is not in out historical Constitution of Declaration and that is something we can all be thankful for.

If you wanna believe in myths then by means do so but the freedom from religion means we get to choose to not subscribe to it. Welcome to democracy ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Shane everything you wrote was valid and well thought out except the last sentence. We are not nor have we ever been a democracy. That concept was put forth by the ancient philosophy of Greece. While we have plucked a few idea’s from their concept such as “The unexamined life is not worth living.”The Golden Mean and the Socratic method of dialog we are and always have been a Republic.Government controlled by citizens or their representatives. So,how’s that been working out for we sweatie masses?

  5. Hi JB,

Here’s a article you might not appreciate. The title is “5 Reasons America Is Not — And Has Never Been — a Christian Nation”.

You have your dogma and that’s OK. But others might want to have some talking points that are more rational than to self-deceive oneself into the erroneous view that our U.S. Constitution is a religious document. Such a belief is currently popular. Sadly it is also delusional.

  6. Ray. I tried to find where anyone has said that we are a ‘Christian Nation’. I couldn’t find it.
