PHOTOS: Last Night’s Brett Dennen Show

Photos from Brett Dennen and Dawes in Bend, Oregon.

Last night, Brett Dennen and opening act Dawes opened up the Clear Summer Nights concert series at the Athletic Club of Bend and BENT blogger Ethan Maffey (and editor of eightythreemusic.com) was there to capture all of Dennen’s goofy dances and pelvic thrusts with his camera.

More photos after the jump.

Donate Camping Gear to Veterans

Donate camping gear and clothing to Pine Mountain Sports for our homeless veterans.

A few weeks ago, I wrote this article about homeless veterans in Central Oregon. Dan McGarigle, the owner of Pine Mountain Sports, read that piece and now his store is holding a clothing and camping gear drive to help out the growing number of homeless veterans in the area.

Bend Goes Crazy, Vancouver Goes Crazier

Bend enjoys bike racing, Vancouver does not enjoy losing.

While most of Bend was gathered at 10 Barrel Wednesday night, getting drunk and reveling in the mountain bike scene, our usually peaceful and passive neighbors to the north were losing their shit.
As you’ve no doubt heard, after losing the Stanley Cup to Boston in a Game 7 meltdown,  Vancouver (like, the whole city plus some) flipped out and started massive rioting — because Canadians are that crazy about ice hockey.

Skyliners Rd. Project – UPDATE

Skyliners Rd. set to receive bike lanes.

Bike lanes on Skyliners Rd.
That’s the gist of last night’s meeting on the Skyliners Rd. reconstruction project.
Deschutes County Road Dept. engineer George Kolb said the decision has been made to create 6-foot wide bike lanes, demarcated by an 8-inch wide stripe on the popular Bend road.

Bend Park District WON’T Be Killing Geese This Summer

Bend Parks and Rec says they’re not going to kill geese this summer.

So, it looks like the Bend Parks and Recreation District isn’t going to be killing any geese (Bend’s unofficial city bird) this summer after all.
Last year, the district, overwhelmed with geese feces in its parks — most noticeably in Drake Park — euthanized more than 100 Canada geese in an effort to thin out the population.

Blitz to the Barrel: Dash for Cash tonight

Local Bend Pros, who happen to be some of the country’s best mountain bike racers, compete for big money.

$2,000 is a lot of money.
That’s the amount on the line for tonight’s “Blitz to the Barrel: Dash for Cash,” an invite-only pro/elite Super D race that takes racers from Wanoga Sno Park to town — finishing at 10 Barrel Brewing’s outside bar.
Local strong-men Adam Craig, Carl Decker, Chris Sheppard, Ryan Trebon and Matt Leito (triathalete!) will all be on hand as well as a smattering of area hacks (including myself) who hope to hang in.
While Craig, Decker, Sheppard and Trebon will be going balls-out for the $2,000 prize, other riders are hoping to score some primes along the way. Lieto, whose unorthodox bike-handling techniques might leave him at a disadvantage on the trails, hopes his ridiculous fitness will help him win the “fastest man on the road” prime. A speed trap will be set up on Tetherow Rd. clocking the racers as they zoom by (or putter, depending).
Lev Stryker, Cog Wild co-owner and general shredder, will look to go bigger and farther than his skinny, XC-minded competition on the two jump primes (one is on the Funner trail, the other is a drop-in of the Tetherow Golf Course — good for spectating, as racers could eat massive shit here).

Skyliners Road Public Meeting Tonight

Public meeting to discuss the options being considered in the rebuilding of Skyliners Rd.

A public meeting is being held this evening (Tuesday, June 14 from 6p.m.-8p.m.) at which the County will outline the proposed Skyliners Road rebuild project.
If you use Skyliners Road for ANYTHING (bike ride, run, roller ski, drive to Tumalo Falls or any of the other attractive options up the road) consider making your voice heard tonight at the William Miller Elementary School (the new school on Skyliners Road).
As far as we can tell, allowing parking on the road, whether in the bike lane or shoulder or whatever designation the County decides on, would be a dangerous option. Cars parked in the shoulder/bike lane forces other users into the road.
