As you’ll see in this week’s Sound Check column, there was plenty of music going on over the weekend. I know, I’m a little slow in posting this, but I caught some of the madness on video and wanted to make use of it.

See Dusty Rhodes and the River Band Sunday Night…It will be your last chance
Since Dusty Rhodes and the River Band headlined the Bite of Bend last year, they’ve been not only on my radar, but constantly in my ear, with their 2009 record Palace and Stage quickly becoming one of my favorites from the past few years. I even wrote a feature about the band for Jambase.
PDXchange Program Announces Fall Shows: The Thermals, Blind Pilot, Weinland/Laura Veirs
Three cheers for the PDXchange Program!
OK, now that you’ve done the whole “hip-hip-hooray” thing in your mind three times, or perhaps out loud if you’re the sort of person who yells excitedly to yourself, here’s the reason for our collective excitement: Henry Abel, the man behind the PDXchange Program, has announced three more shows at the Tower Theatre for the fall.

Derrick Brown: The Witty Poet Performs Two Shows Tonight
Derrick Brown, the Long Beach-based slam poet who’s as funny as he is sharp with his words, is giving Bend two shows tonight.
Before becoming one of the most lauded touring poets you’re likely to find, Brown was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne, making him probably the only ex-military performance artists you’ll see this year.
Guitars on Fire: Ottmar Liebert Tonight at the Tower
Hello guitar fans. There’s a lot of you out here in Bend and I have a guess what you’ll be doing tonight.
Chickity China The Chinese Chicken! Barenaked Ladies are in Bend
The popular Canadian cross-genre act, Barenaked Ladies, is playing the Les Schwab Amphitheater tonight. The show kicks off at 6:30pm tonight (Saturday) and tickets are still available.
Tonight is Andy McCumber’s last show with longtime punk acts No Cash Value and Hands on Throat
After a decade playing his way through Bend’s punk scene, Andy McCumber is appearing at his final show tonight at Players Bar and Grill with both of his bands, No Cash Value and Hands on Throat.
He first began playing in Bend with No Cash Value in 2000 after moving to the region from eastern Oregon and then joined Hands on Throat about three and a half years ago.
Thursday’s Big Night of Music: The Aggrolites, White Buffalo, The Poison Control Center
I’m indecisive. I spend more of my lunch break deciding what to eat than I do eating.
