Sunday marks the one year anniversary of the massive earthquake that hit northeastern Japan, triggering a devastating tsunami and leading to the meltdown of a nuclear powerplant. About 20,000 people were confirmed killed or are still missing.
Itโs been a long year for the survivors.
Thatโs where you and Bend-O-Bento comes in. The two Japanese gals that opened this shop on Wilson Avenue a few weeks back want you to come in and buy a $10 lunch. Theyโll take the cash and send it off for relief efforts in Japan.
Itโs really an extension of the mission the two women had when they first got together last year for a Japan relief benefit at Common Table. They ended up feeding 300 people and raising $20,000.
The other common denominator? The food.
Bend-O-Bentoโs food isnโt about yakisoba and Kalifornia rolls. You can expect to see a much more authentic take on Japanese fare than any of the other kitchens in town, according to the owners.
We just think itโs a great thing to do with your Sunday.

Why send money over seas to help feed people when we have people starving here in Oregon. Oh thats right because then it makes for better free advertising.
Trolls are funny.
Really Jone? Do you think the mothers cry any less for their lost children than American Moms? Or that American children hurt more than Japanese children? We are all part of this great big human race! Good for you Bend-o-Bento. It is people like you that make the world go around!
