Attorney General Rayfield Stops in Bend for Town Hall
State Attorney General Dan Rayfield joined a panel of local leaders in Bend on Saturday, May 3, to discuss how the state is pushing back against federal policies impacting communities like Bend.
Rayfield was joined by Congresswoman Janelle Bynum, State Sen. Anthony Broadman (D-District 27) and State Representative Jason Kropf (D-OR 54). The four discussed ways in which the state is responding to federal decisions, focusing mainly on funding impacts.
“Currently, the state of Oregon is engaged in 16 lawsuits. These lawsuits are focused on protecting the federal funding coming into the state. Right now, it’s about $1.6 billion to come into this state that is currently in jeopardy,” Rayfield said.
These cuts to federal funding, he said, are impacting agencies like schools, nonprofits and local governments. Rayfield has held a series of town halls across the state and plans to host more to continue gathering feedback.
“A lot is at stake, but to be able to do our jobs at the Department of Justice well, we need folks like yourselves talking to us about the impacts that you’re seeing,” he said.
