The impending Civil War has been bringing plenty of national media attention to Oregon over the past few days, mostly from ESPN which is carrying the game tonight at 7 p.m. 6p.m. The Wall Street Journal is the latest to weigh in on the meaning of the intrastate showdown. The newspaper has an interesting piece about how both of Oregonโ€™s teams have relied on California imports and new scholarship rules to revive their football programs.

Itโ€™s not news to most die-hard Ducks and Beaver fans, but itโ€™s a pretty comprehensive piece about the how historic rivalry has become a proxy battle for Oregonians in a game fueled by 135 years of history but played by California imports.

  1. The numbers of Cali players for the ducks is embarrassing. No wonder it’s called the U of California at Eugene. 2 in-state starters out of 22, are you kidding?

Oregon State actually has a decent % of in-state players, 7 starters are from in-state, and many of the rest of the players are from states other than California.

  2. I went to University of Delaware and I dont think there was one in state player on any team during the four years I was there. I think this is not a big deal, granted DE is alot smaller than OR. I think it might even be a suburb of Philly. Anyway all teams should be recruiting the best from all neighboring states based on talent not zip code
