Deschutes County Treasurer

William (Bill) Kuhn—Three candidates filed to run in this race, but voters will find just two in their county voters’ pamphlet: Bill Kuhn and Trevor Lewis. Both work or worked in the financial arena—Kuhn recently retired as Bend Market President of First Interstate Bank; Lewis as a mortgage lender. While Lewis is just getting started in his career and shows promise, Kuhn has decades of experience and plenty of board memberships to demonstrate his commitment to the community. As a member of the EDCO/ Deschutes County Forgivable Loan Due Diligence Committee and the Deschutes County Fair board, as well as a past member of the City of Bend Economic Development Advisory Board, Kuhn has dug deep into the community. Our endorsement in this race goes to Kuhn.

  1. I’m disappointed that The Source Weekly has chosen to overlook the actual impact of the redrawn districts in these endorsements. There is a large geographical amount of Deschutes County that was not included in the redrawn 5th Congressional District. It seems that not including the 2nd Congressional District in your recent coverage and endorsements is ignoring a portion of your reader base. While it does seem that re-election for Cliff Bentz is likely, I hope that in future elections you would be more comprehensive to your full Central Oregon readership with your election content.

  2. Good point; I guess their excuse is that they’re “Bend” Source. However, it appears that there are a few tiny sections within the Bend city limits that are in the 2nd; e.g., along Eagle Road.

  3. Just posted something earlier to the source they took it down because it goes against their propaganda narrative

  4. Just a reminder readers– we do reserve the right to remove comments that post hate speech or that are factually incorrect and promote disinformation.

  5. I applaud The Sources endorsement of Kotek for governor. She represents Oregon values: decency, honesty, integrity. Election deniers, violent extremists, bloody coup rioters and those who will strip women of their right to control their bodies have no place in Oregon or anywhere else in this country. Vote blue!

  6. why am I not surprised by the SOURCE’s endorsements. I think they should stick to restaurant and entertainment reviews. if you love what Bend has become, a mini Portland/Seattle, with no signs of getting better, then by all means vote their council/mayor recommendations.

  7. Nicole….2 things….I’ve lived in Bend since 2017 and have no idea why the IP address is SF….but why would you ask?

  8. Paul – because it seemed ironic if you were indeed writing from SF and complaining about people from the big cities.

  9. Nicole… so now that you tried to invade my privacy by tracking my IP address, which turned out to be incorrect, you call my opinion “ironic” due to misinformation. I’d say it is ironic that you, a stalwart for confidentiality and freedom of speech, would even behave in such an inappropriate manner.

  10. Paul — the IP addresses appear for people who monitor comments on our website, and my comment said “if you were.” Hardly an investigation nor something to ruin your day. Keep calm and move on.
