Buttermilk Honey Biscuits

โ€œThe biscuits are for baking but the buns are just for show.โ€ That was the cross stitch quote hanging in my grannyโ€™s kitchen my entire childhood. I grew up in the South and even though Iโ€™ve spent more years of my life now in the Pacific Northwest, those Southern roots run deep when it comesโ€ฆ

Brussels Two Ways

Seems like folks either love โ€˜em or hate โ€˜em. Iโ€™m talking about Brussels sprouts, which in recent times have evolved from those smelly, mushy things we were forced to eat as kids to very popular menu items at restaurants everywhere. If youโ€™re in the love โ€˜em crowd, you may already have a go-to Brussels recipe.โ€ฆ

Pumpkin Waste: Alternatives to the Landfill

Pumpkins make decorating for Halloween easy. Grab an orange, plump pumpkin or a quirky, naturally patterned gourd from a local grocery store for a couple of bucks, put it on your stoop or in your windowsill, sit back and relax into the chilling weather of fall. Sounds great, right? No plastic, no big spending andโ€ฆ

From Sea to Shining Sea… and Back Again

Plenty of people hike the Pacific Crest Trail, the Appalachian Trail or any number of other long-haul trails that give them a chance to experience a region and accomplish something big. But imagine essentially combining all the above-named trailsโ€”plus plenty more groundโ€”to form a circumnavigation of the United States. The American Perimeter Trail, recently scoutedโ€ฆ

The Third Act: I Yam What I Yam, Said the Sweet Potato

What are you going to be for Halloween? Here’s one: a dog nose and tail, a large plastic cone to attach around your neck, and you’re a wounded woof to go. Or for fun, how about an exaggerated version of yourself? Gearhead, geek, helicopter (grand) parent, couch potato, bleeding heart environmentalist or, in my case,โ€ฆ

Beers That Pair Perfectly with Halloween

Recently I went on a search for some great Halloween beers. I was looking for cool label art, complex flavors and NOT just pumpkin beers, of which there are many to contend with. Most still contain pumpkin, but in moderation. I’m quite happy with this lineup, consisting of a half dozen beers, paired down toโ€ฆ
