Kudos to the local TV station for positioning a reporter outside the 4th Street post office on April 15. What a strategic place to pin down the people of Bend and ask some hard-hitting questions about taxes! I approached the reporter to offer my view: Paying taxes sucks when nearly 50% goes to military spending and not even 5% goes to education and social services.
Unfortunately, my notions were a bit outside the scope of the reporter’s story – he informed me that he was there to monitor how long the average person had to wait in line to mail their taxes.
Wow, hard-hitting indeed. Thanks, local TV guys, for doing your part to ensure an informed citizenry. Very … yawn … informative.

Maybe the reporter wasn’t interested because your “facts” are wrong, so how valid are the opinions you express.
RE: scott mclennan’s comment:
actually scott, my facts are just that, facts. i got them from the Government Accountability Office. So unless the govt. is lying…

According to the Congressional Budget Office for FY 2008:
Defense–20%
Social Security–21%
Interest on debt–8%
Medicare, Medicaid–33%
Non-Defense Discretionary Spending–18%
I’d say you didn’t know the first thing about what you were saying. Magicians pull rabbits out of hats. You pulled the ‘facts’ from firmly between your legs.
