Justin Livingston, candidate for Bend City Council position 1, joins Source Weekly Editor Nicole Vulcan for “My View,” a video series inviting local candidates to share their views on a host of topics ahead of the 2020 election, while sitting in front of a view they enjoy.

Livingston chose a view of downtown Bend’s Mirror Pond.

Stay tuned for the Source Weekly’s endorsements of local candidates, on stands Oct. 22, 2020.

About My View: The My View video series will continue with video interviews for local city, county and state races in Central Oregon, all the way up to the 2020 election. See the videos as they go live right here on our News page.

COVID protocols: Since the interviews take place outdoors, the Source team invited each candidate to go without a mask, so voters can get to know them and see their faces as they talk.

  1. You are wrong Johnathan about tourism and claiming you all made the right decision in not shutting things down. These tourists are out and about and lingering in places without masks and bringing and spreading Covid-19 to our community. And if you are so data driven, you will see the numbers went up after Memorial Weekend, July 4th when droves of tourist came here. Now schools are not back in session. And now we will see what happens after Memorial Weekend ( I would suspect since school has been back in session for California for three weeks now it will be lower). You all should have shut the town down, so you do not have my vote! And what happens to the parents of our children who can’t go back to work because school is not back in session live. Give me a break, this is going to really impact our economy severely. Those hotels got loans and that was what the stimulus package and unemployment payments were for.

In regards to ICE situation here in Bend, you all were not prepared which shows lack of leadership. What actually did you all do for equity & inclusion in our town? You didn’t answer the question.

In regards to infrastructure and congestion and traffic: The way to reduce congestion Johnathan is to stop the building in Bend. But you are a realtor, so you benefit from all this building, especially high end housing. We don’t have the infrastructure, water is an issue, we have one hospital and traffic is becoming an issue. Stop allowing developers to build here. No more golf courses and big developments with over million dollar houses like in Tetherow, Discovery West etc. We need to leave the rest of our land as open space. It is also impacting our wildlife. We simply don’t have the infrastructure here. Instead of letting these high end developments continue, build affordable housing and address the issue of what you say is your passion, which I believe you said at the beginning of the interview is to keep Bend more affordable.

  2. You are funny Nicole.
We should have shut the town down? How?
Masks will save everyone? Really? Its becoming more and more evident that this whole covid panic has been so overblown.

Sorry but if you think your kids will back in school this year you are sadly mistaken. Do you really think that the BEA will allow schools to open?

Stopping a police agency from doing its job is bad? Locking up criminals is bad? Tell us how Justin L should have prepared for ICE. what should any of us do foe equity and inclusion in Bend. Make hollow statements perhaps.
And hey, property records are readily available in Oregon. A quick search shows a family trust with your last name owning a property in NWX worth only $906,540. Not quite the evil million (Discovery West or Tethtow) you mention but I guess in your liberal world facts don’t really matter. Not sure where you came from but im kind of thinking that maybe Oregon should have shut their southern border a few years ago. Its always fascinating that people who want the us borders to be open to shut down local growth. Please tell us where the loveable immagrants will live. Here? In your glass house maybe? Be careful, stay home, save lives.

  3. BigMike: I read your comment thinking you were addressing me, the interviewer, with your inquiries, and was flabbergasted, since we aim to keep these interviews as neutral and fair as possible. But now I see you were responding to another commenter. Thanks all for keeping it civil here as you share your views.
