We were out sipping a beer this weekend at one of our local haunts, chatting with friends, keeping a tangential interest on a football game or two and generally enjoying ourselves as music played in the background when some dude, who apparently thought he ran the place, told the bartender, quite loudly, “It wouldn’t kill you to turn down the music.” No, as far as we know, no one has ever been killed by music, loud or otherwise. But also, no one has ever died from keeping their damn mouth shut and just listening to the completely appropriately leveled and mostly easy-going music playing in a public place. Does this guy go also to swimming pools and tell people to put their shirts on? Come on, pal, you don’t run the place, OK? Jeez, WTF?

  1. love it! Take heed patrons. Not cool at all. If you don’t like the place the way it is leave, but don’t as the bar tender to put this game on that tv and that gam on this tv, REALLY!

  2. It all boils down to treating people with respect, and being aware of your surroundings. That said if you go to a sports bar I think it’s well within reason to request a specific event be played on a specific TV so long as another group isn’t already watching said TV. That’s the purpose of a sports bar.

  3. … but imagine IF he DID turn it down and it DID kill him. Oh man, what a story that would be! I wonder how much guilt that d-bag would feel if that in fact happened. ;-P

  4. Isn’t it rather funny how some adults act more like children than children do? This isn’t news but is a sad commentary on silliness.

  5. WoW talk about people acting imature. it cracks me up.

First off. if you go to any dammed Bar or sports pub with the intention to catch a buzz or get smashed watching sports or jamming oput to music it’s going to be loud or Energetic or flat out the Shit that moves your ass off your seat and onto your feet to bust a couple grooves and moves. it’s a given fact achohal is involved so get over your selfs and enjoy life befor it’s to late lol.

  6. mark s, you need to reed more so you can learn to speal and youse the proper form of the werd.
it is really sad how few people know how to spell their own language. fwiw, the damn spell check is telling you the word is wrong. sheesh. i type in all lowercase on porpoise since i like big ocean mammals.

  7. I am continually asking restaurants (brew pubs included) to turn their music down. I ask politely and if it is “possible” so I hope I’m not in the category of the person you reported on, but the decibel level is so often above what is comfortable for conversation, not to mention the people who talk too loud. Try it out. Lower the music or TV and you’ll find you can still hear it just fine. There’s too much noise out there in general. I have some sympathy for the guy. He just didn’t express his frustration in an appropriate manner. Charles.

  8. loud music and loud mouths where ever did kill me, it hurts to be an american sometimes, i say save gas and kill nascars instead
