The Decemberists and Ween have been announced for this summer.

I just got word from the Old Mill District that the Memorial Day Weekend music schedule got a big boost today with the announcement that The Decemberists are playing the Les Schwab Amphitheater on May 29, along with openers Rodrigo y Gabriella.
As you probably already know, the Portland-based Decemberists have been getting a ton of press lately thanks to their incredible new disc, The King is Dead, a pleasant turn back toward the band’s rootsy beginnings.

The Seattle Times Pushes for Marijuana Legalization

Washington’s paper of record comes out in favor of legalizing pot.

Swampy Lake Adventure

It has been way too long since I have been out on single track after a fresh snow. Yesterday, my sister and I decided to deviate from our normal loops around Meissner to the trails around Swampy Lake. We had some idea of where we were going from the map and times we’d been out there before, but conveniently forgot the elevation gain and loss on these trails is pretty significant. What seemed like a pretty average afternoon ski: from the parking lot to Swampy Lakes hut to Swede Ridge hut and back, turned into an exercise in almost bonking the last few miles without food or water.
