The Bend Art Center and Atelier 6000 will be leaving the space in The Box Factory Aug. 18. For now, Bend Art Center won’t reopen, but will work as a “de-centered function as a de-centered art center,” according to a letter sent July 5. In the letter, the board of Bend Art Center explained the […]
Teafly Peterson
For the last 20 years, I have been working as an artist and an educator. Some days I am better at one than the other. The good days are when I am excellent at both simultaneously. I love those days. I teach a variety of mediums– painting, drawing, photography, writing, film making. Mostly what I teach is how to develop your voice honestly, openly and confidently. I like to ask questions. I find it is the best way to get an answer– start with a question. What I teach is how to ask the right questions and how to not be afraid of the answers.
I work professionally as an artist. If you need a bumble bee delivering your tea, I’m the gal for you! You name it, I can probably draw or design it!

Mural Code Making its Way Forward
On May 15 the Bend City Council voted to move forward with the expansion of the city’s mural code. This would mean that artists and building owners can collaborate to acquire permits to paint murals in any area of town—and not just in the Maker’s District, as is currently on the books. In April, Pine […]
Students showcase work at COCC
The annual Spring Student Art Exhibition at Central Oregon Community College is now on display at the COCC Barber Library Rotunda Gallery and in the Pence Pinckney Gallery. It’s a showcase that brims with life. The work spans across multiple mediums, and in itself is a fine showcase of the studio classes being offered at […]

Capturing the Essence of Healing Reins
Inspiration can come to artists in many ways. For local painter, Kelly Thiel, learning about Healing Reins Therapeutic Riding Center and participating in their Diamonds and Dust fundraiser for the last two years kicked up a bit of magic and inspiration that she’s now putting into her art. She’s also welcoming other artists to join […]
City to consider expanding mural code
The majority of public art projects in Bend are private—located on private land and privately funded. We are immensely lucky to have an array of patrons in our city who have paid for the installations of sculptures in roundabouts or paid for murals on their privately owned buildings, like in the Old Mill. As of […]
