Authentic Argentinian Empanadas Handmade to Order

The story of Masa Empanadas is a case of one thing leading to another and everything coming together all at the same time. The first plotline involves a young Argentinian leaving the family farm to pursue his dreams of dance. That’s what Emanuel Columbo did back in 2010. His dreams led him to Lima, Peru,โ€ฆ

Artist Fact Sheet: Josephine Antoinette

The last Fact Sheet I put together about a visiting act was in December of 2019 for an Andrew Marlin show that eventually would get canceled. That’s way too long. But now, bands and artists are beginning to make their way back through Central Oregon, lining up tour dates as live music starts to awaken.โ€ฆ

Stay Cool and Celebrate the 4th

With weather on the Fourth of July promising to be hot and sunnyโ€”but not quite as scorching as the temperatures we’re experiencing as we write thisโ€”the name of the game for this Central Oregon Independence Day is, hopefully, staying cool and calm. With this week’s heat wave, the City of Bend has declared a stateโ€ฆ

Insects: They’re not all 'bad'

Not too long ago I went on a rampage about birds being one of the best helpers in our “battle with insects.” I fear I’ve left people with the impression that all insects are “bad” and that we’re in constant peril from ravenous arthropods. If I left you with that image then I did ourโ€ฆ

Family Ties

When I was a kid and the original “The Fast and the Furious” came out, I’m pretty sure I loved it because car chases and explosions were basically what I was after back then. “2 Fast 2 Furious” was so terrible and “Tokyo Drift” was so ridiculous that the franchise became a bit of aโ€ฆ

Art House Cinema Survives in Bend

COVID-19 affected everyone, human and business alike, completely differently. Bend institutions like Sargent’s Cafe and Pilot Butte Drive-In didn’t survive the virus, while newer spots like San Simon managed to pivot and thrive. It became almost impossible to predict which businesses would make it through the toughest and scariest time many of us could possiblyโ€ฆ

No More COVID… Restrictions

Gov. Kate Brown signed an executive order on June 25 saying the state would lift all statewide COVID-19 restrictions by June 30 even if the 70% adult vaccination benchmark is not met. CANCER (June 21-July 22): Philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche said that when our rational minds are working at their best, they inspire us to cultivate our most interesting and enlivening passions.
