Big Music Videos in Bend: Jah Sun goes futuristic with Far From Earth Films

Bend doesn’t seem like the place where a high-end music video would be under construction, but that’s essentially what was going on a couple weeks ago at Rage Films’ studio.

It was there that Tim Cash from Far From Earth Films was directing the music video for reggae/dance hall star Jah Sun, the pride of Humboldt County. In the past year, Jah Sun has gained notoriety throughout Europe as well as in the Caribbean, where his videos appear on Hype TV, the MTV equivalent in that region.

The shoot – which featured Rage Films’ Sky Pinnick working as director of photography and Chris Kas as assistant director – had all making for music video greatness: dancers (local talent from The Vibe dance studio, led by choreographer Sarah Hall), big lighting setups and, somewhat strangely, the fuselage of a glider. Jah Sun, his red dreadlocks tied in a ponytail that flowed down his back, sang the song over and over and over (as is the protocol for a video shoot) as the dancers did their thing around him.

When all this came together, it created the futuristic plot for Jah Sun’s new track “Microchip” in which folks were getting, well, ya know, micro chipped. Also on set was the constantly smiling Jamaica native, Stevie Culture, who is featured on the track, as well as many of Jah Sun’s latest cuts.

The video should be rolling out soon, but in the meantime here’s some far-less sexy video I took (edited by our video maven Anne Pick) from the shoot.
